Waiblingen's New Path Sparks Controversy

A bridge demolition in Bittenfeld forest has sparked controversy, with building technician and building inspector Harald Dürr at the centre of the debate. The city of Waiblingen, however, maintains that its decision to build a new path instead of repairing the bridge was a more economically viable long-term solution.

According to Dürr, the wooden planks of the bridge's surface were partly rotten and needed to be replaced. He believes the demolition of the bridge was unnecessary as the concrete foundations, steel beams, and wooden supports were in good condition. Dürr estimates the cost of replacing the bridge's surface to be around 5,000 euros.

The city administration, on the other hand, argues that the bridge was located in a spot with high moisture, leading to wooden components being damaged in a relatively short time and compromising the bridge's safe use. Mayor Dieter Schienmann wrote a letter to Dürr stating this. The city administration claims that the new gravel path cost around 9,000 euros, while the bridge would have required regular maintenance and inspections, leading to recurring costs.

Dürr, however, counters that the cost of repairing the bridge would have been significantly higher than the cost of the new path. He informed the city administration of Waiblingen about the bridge's condition but did not receive a response. Dürr sent pictures of the bridge's condition to various authorities, including the Stuttgart government presidency, nature conservation authorities, and nature conservation associations, but to no avail.

Some people blame Dürr for the bridge's demolition, and the matter has kept him awake at night. The Green Party (Die Grünen) has also criticised the city of Waiblingen in connection with the incident. Dürr accuses the city of wasting taxpayer money and causing damage to nature through the bridge's demolition.

Meanwhile, the city administration reports that it has received positive feedback about the new path and will host a public on-site event on September 18, 20XX, at 4:30 PM, where Bittenfeld's local representative, Nicole Grüner, will present the new path and provide information about its background and decision. Dürr will be in attendance at the event.

In a separate development, the 33rd tractor trek is taking place at the Böllenbodenhof in the Waiblinger district of Bittenfeld. Powerful tractors are pulling a ton-heavy brake wagon across the field during the competition, with no shifting down allowed.
