Luxury Meets Off-Road: Grant Peters' Customized Lexus GX550 Overtrail Plus
Grant Peters, a veteran member of the 2024+ Lexus GX (GX 550 & GX 550H) group, has shared an image of his personalized Lexus GX550 Overtrail Plus, a testament to the growing trend among GX550 owners to modify and enhance their SUVs.
Peters' GX550 boasts a host of upgrades and modifications that have transformed it into a formidable off-road vehicle, while maintaining its luxury appeal. The total cost of the build, including its starting MSRP and the accessories, is nearly $100,000.
One of the most notable modifications is the ICON Vehicle Dynamics suspension system, which has been fitted to improve off-road performance and ride quality. The suspension is complemented by ICON Alloy wheels, each costing around $395, with large 37-inch Nitto tires for aggressive and durable off-road traction.
Dissent Off-Road accessories, including custom bumpers, sliders, full armor for protection, and a roof rack, have also been installed. These additions not only enhance the SUV's off-road capabilities but also provide extra protection for the vehicle. The high-clearance bumper, roof rack, and sliders cost $5,395 in total.
For improved water fording capability, custom dual snorkels have been installed. The vehicle is also equipped with 74Weld portal axles, which increase ground clearance and wheel articulation, making it even more capable off-road.
To further enhance the exhaust flow and sound, a Magnaflow muffler upgrade has been fitted. An built-in air compressor has also been installed for inflating tires during off-road use.
The exterior of the GX550 has been preserved with the application of satin paint protection film (PPF) from Beyond Wraps. Inside, modifications include seats repositioned 10 cm further back for extra legroom, a dual control touch screen, and convenience features such as compressor refrigerators and integrated cup holders.
Peters' GX550 is also equipped with lighting from Rigid Industries, a hidden winch from Come-Up Winch, and wheels from ICON Alloys. The cost of the hidden winch from Come-Up Winch is around $1,680 or more.
The Toyota Land Cruiser and Lexus GX550 share the same J250 chassis, and the GX550, despite being a luxury SUV, is capable of off-roading and has a reputation as a do-it-all, go-anywhere platform. The Toyota Land Cruiser J250, a plainer counterpart to the GX550, can outperform more powerful and high-tech rivals off-road.
