A643 Off-Ramp Closure: Indefinite Detour for HGVs Between Mainz and Wiesbaden
A significant change is coming for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) traveling through Mainz and Wiesbaden. The off-ramp from Wiesbaden to Mainz on the A643 will close indefinitely from Wednesday, October 8, due to repeated weight restriction violations. This closure aims to protect the bridge and prevent further danger.
The closure affects the section between kilometers 80 and 87 on the D8 near the Czech border. HGVs over 3.5 tons have been banned from using the western ramps of the Mainz-Mombach interchange since spring 2025. As a result, HGVs wanting to join the A643 towards Bingen and Koblenz from the Mombacher roundabout must now use a six-kilometer detour.
Drivers coming from the Mainz interchange and using the Mainz-Mombach exit will not experience any changes. Pedestrians and cyclists will also not be affected by the closure. Detours will be set up, with traffic from Wiesbaden directed to the Mainz-Gonsenheim interchange.
The indefinite closure of the off-ramp from Wiesbaden to Mainz is a necessary measure to ensure the safety of the bridge. HGVs are advised to plan their routes accordingly, using the detour via the Mainz-Gonsenheim interchange. The closure is set to begin on Wednesday, October 8.
