Accelerated timeline set for animal welfare improvements

In a recent development, changes have been made to the federal program for the modernization of animal stalls in Germany. The German Bundestag (Federal Parliament) has taken the lead, making these changes through its plenary resolutions and inter-factional agreements.

The program's new deadlines were announced on September 12, setting a 24-month project runtime from the date of funding approval. Alois Rainer, a farmer, is among those affected by these changes.

Farmers have until April 30, 2026, to apply for investment funding. For investment volumes up to 0.5 million euros, a 60% grant is provided. However, it's important to note that no further funding is available for animal welfare modernization in the program.

Supported farmers must submit the proof of use by December 31, 2028. Additional costs are only fundable until 2027. The decision on the application will be made by December 31, 2026.
