Unprecedented Success: Olli Burkhard, TKMS CEO, Announces Record-Breaking Order Backlog in Submarine Construction

TKMS shipyard reaches all-time high in order volumes - Acclaimed submarine manufacturer, TKMS, sets new order records.

Olli Burkhard, the CEO of Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS), shares the company's stellar success in the first half of 2024/25. With an unprecedented order backlog currently at an astounding €18 billion, TKMS is set to dominate the submarine construction sector for years to come. The impressive figure is down to recent orders, including those from Singapore and Germany.

Singapore's Six for Good Luck

In May, Singapore added two more 70-meter-long submarines to their order, with TKMS set to build these in the Wismar shipyard, where the first units for Singapore were crafted. This move brings Singapore's total number of TKMS submarines to six. Theships will be of the Type 218SG variety, following the commission of the "Invincible", "Impeccable", "Illustrious", and "Inimitable" submarines.

More German Naval Muscle

TKMS also landed a sizeable order in December 2024 for the construction of four additional Type 212CD submarines for the German Navy. The order agreed upon amounts to €4.7 billion alone. Norwegian authorities have also expressed interest in increasing their submarine fleet, a promising development for TKMS.

A Canadian Caper?

The shipyard is vying for a potential submarine order from Canada as well, taking TKMS' ambitions global.

Efficiency and Innovation at the Forefront

Despite the huge surge in workload, TKMS facilities in Germany are equipped to handle the increased demand without significant expansion. TKMS remains committed to utilizing the most sophisticated technologies, including advanced air-independent propulsion systems and augmented reality, to ensure optimal submarine construction.
