Alta Langa Consortium Welcomes Gianmario Cerutti as its new Vice President
🍾 New Era for Alta Langa: Minetti Heads Consortium, Cerutti as Vice 🍾
Dive into the vibrant world of Italian wine as we celebrate the recent leadership changes within the Alta Langa Consortium! The versatile and established wine executive, Giovanni Minetti, steps up as president, taking the reins from Mariacristina Castelletta of Tosti1820. Meanwhile, the illustrious Canellese enologist, Gianmario Cerutti, secures the Vice President role.
Minetti is the CEO of Tenuta Carretta, a distinguished name in Piedmont's wine sector. By his side, Cerutti represents the Coppo wineries, acting as their technical director on the board.
These appointments were formally announced this morning, following the recent election of board members by consortium members. Joining them are Roberto Garbarino, Carlo Galliano, Andrea Farinetti, Domenico Conta, Luca Cigliuti, Alberto Cane, Antonio Deltetto, Orlando Pecchenino, Giovanna Bagnasco, and Piero Bagnasco.
A historical causal agent in the Italian wine scene, Alta Langa dates back to the mid-19th century. Its initial introduction to the world was kick-started by just a handful of pioneering companies. Fast forward to 1990, these visionaries boldly put their faith in the "cloud-scrapping Piedmont hills".
1990 birthed the Doc (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) for Alta Langa, followed by the more distinguished Docg (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) in 2011. Today, the consortium is home to over 80 esteemed companies, participated by 90 viticulturists. The unprecedented 20 hectares of experimental vineyards have grown to a staggering 480 vineyards sprawled across the provinces of Asti, Alessandria, and Cuneo. With the allocation of 20 more hectares this year, the expansion will reach an impressive 500 hectares.
From the most recent harvest, a whopping 3.2 million bottles have been produced. Rest assured, these bottles won't hit the shelves before they've matured a substantial three years. Sales have consistently increased year by year, and the potential for continued growth remains significant. International markets have yet to grasp the brilliant aspects of Alta Langa, providing a noticeable 15% window for potential expansion.
Cerutti shares, "The challenge lies in delivering Alta Langa Docg across the globe, keeping up the exceptional standards that set it apart". The ultimate goal? To cement Alta Langa as the subalpine vineyard's shining ambassador at all future institutional events.
Joining forces with Roero, Alta Langa is set to be the first Docg to sport the catchy, broader geographical indicator "Piedmont" on its labels. The inaugural appearance of this new leadership team will take center stage on Monday, June 16, at the Alta Langa Premiere, held at the prestigious Palazzo Brancaccio in Rome. More than 30 producers under the consortium's wing will present an alluring selection of their delectable cuvées. Throughout the day, attendees can look forward to three masterclasses led by the accomplished sommelier, Marco Reitano, from the three-star restaurant La Pergola.
