Altered Schedules in Münster: Unusual Bus Operations Occur

Münster Transport Disruptions Due to Planned Demonstrations

Citizens of Münster are advised of potential transportation disruptions this Saturday, as several demonstrations are expected to take place in the city center. Consequently, diversions will be necessary for almost all bus lines in the area, with buses temporarily bypassing the city center, main station, Eisenbahnstraße, and Ludgeriplatz.

The city's transit authority has devised temporary reroutes for nearly all lines based on the planned closures. However, given the fluid nature of demonstration areas, short-term modifications to these reroutes might occur. Passengers are encouraged to prepare for service interruptions and delays, as altered routes and possible traffic congestion may lead to trip delays or cancellations.

The following is a summary of the revised bus routes:

For the weekend, the Federal Police has issued a general order for Münster Hauptbahnhof prohibiting the carrying of dangerous objects, glass bottles, and alcoholic beverages. This order also applies to the following train routes:

  • Lengerich - Münster Hbf - Dülmen
  • Rheine - Münster Hbf - Hamm
  • Münster Hbf - Capelle

and all trains running on these routes in both directions. This order is in effect from Friday (30.05.) at 00:00 until Sunday (01.06.) at 23:59, with the intent to enhance security in rail traffic and serve as a safety filter for the city's gatherings and events.

The ordinance includes a ban on carrying dangerous items such as firearms, bladed weapons, and alcohol, including replicas of firearms, batons, and irritant spray devices. Alcohol and glass bottles are also prohibited. Although no sales ban for businesses located in Münster Central Station has been issued, alcohol can still be purchased there; however, customers must exit the station immediately afterwards. The Federal Police will conduct increased patrols during the period of the ordinance, and violations of the carrying ban may result in a fine, administrative fine, or criminal proceedings.

A total of 58 incidents involving weapons or other dangerous items were reported at and around Münster Central Station between January 2025 and May 23, 2025. On Tuesday morning (27.05.), a 26-year-old shoplifter threatened two employees of a business in Münster Central Station with a sharp object before fleeing the station. This weekend's demonstrations, scheduled to commence at Servatiiplatz on Saturday at 2:00 PM, are hosted by the "Gemeinsam für Deutschland" alliance of the Querdenker movement. In response, the "Keinen Meter den Nazis" alliance has announced five counter-demonstrations along the march route.

Simultaneously, the "Docklands Festival" will take place at the harbor, with up to 16,000 visitors expected. The arrival and departure of participants in the demonstrations and festival will primarily occur via Münster Central Station. The police advise avoiding the city center by vehicle on Saturday.

  1. Due to the planned demonstrations, disruptions are anticipated in the transportation, finance, and industry sectors as businesses in the city center may experience reduced foot traffic and possible service interruptions.
  2. Given the diversions and reroutes being implemented for almost all bus lines in Münster, passengers are advised to closely monitor the finance industry, as potential transportation delays could impact their ability to meet financial deadlines or commitments that day.
