A Century's End: The Third Insolvency of a German Horticulture Pioneer Leaves Employees and Customers Alarmed

Another German Cult Business files for bankruptcy after a century of operation.

Once more, fear clouds the future: After a century of unyielding success, another German hallowed company finds itself in financial ruins. This unexpected turn of events has left many in a state of shock.

Insolvency is no stranger: Company swept away by the storm twice before

The company has a tumultuous history with financial distress. This isn't its first rodeo. In 2019 and six years prior, the company was teetering on the brink of insolvency, each time teased back from the edge of oblivion by last-minute salvage operations. Yet, here we are, five years later, staring at a third insolvency filing. A downpour of problems has washed over the company this time around, forcing it to wrestle with its existential crisis once again. Previously, it was saved just in the nick of time, but will fate smile upon it this time?

Hope in the darkness: Customers and employees pray for another miracle

This time, the insolvency could not be averted. Gärtner Pötschke cites exorbitant personnel, logistics, and IT costs, coupled with dwindling customer demand as the reasons for their woes. Their online shop offers a cornucopia of gardening delights, from aesthetic accents to seeds and potted plants, catering to customers all across the nation. However, the very platform that connected them to their customers caused a barrage of order-related issues, exacerbating their downward spiral.

In the past, the Drogerie Group twice stitched together the dying threads of the horticulture company and sewed it into the Weltbild Group. Yet, as the company dangles helplessly on the precipice, it remains unclear whether the Drogerie family will leap to its aid once more. The court-appointed insolvency administrator eagerly seeks investors, but the fate of the Drogerie garden isn't yet written.
