Anticipated Fuel Costs for July Unveiled
Fuel Prices Plummet Continuously in Azores
For the fourth straight month, diesel prices in the Azores have taken a dive. Although this month's drop might not make a significant difference for consumers, it's just one more cent less per litre, bringing the new cost to 1.398 euros. The reduction in diesel prices was a mere 0.4 cents from last month.
Similarly, butane gas prices have been on a downward spiral too, plunging for four consecutive months. As of July 1st, butane gas prices dropped by 1.2 cents per kilo.
The Azorean government attributes these adjustments in fuel prices to the "recent fluctuations in international market prices for petroleum and energy products."
Currently, diesel in the Azores sits at 1.398 euros per litre, a 0.4 cent decrease from the previous month. From May to June, diesel prices shed a substantial 10.4 cents per litre. After a slight dip of 0.6 cents in June, gasoline prices stabilized again, maintaining the price at 1.574 euros per litre in July.
Likewise, the colored diesel for agriculture and fishing, defined in a separate order, also saw a decrease of 0.4 cents per litre in July. Colored diesel in agriculture will now cost €1.027 per litre, while the price for colored diesel in fishing is fixed at €0.837 per litre. The price of butane gas fell by 1.2 cents per kilo this month, and for bulk diesel, it saw a 1.3 cent drop. Since January, when prices started to be updated monthly, butane gas prices have been on a rollercoaster ride — plummeting 26.4 cents per kilo between May and June after skyrocketing at the beginning of the year.
Notably, the maximum prices for petroleum and energy products in the Azores change on the 1st of each month, based on the variation in the monthly European Price (PE) value. This figure reflects shifts in European wholesale fuel markets[1].
In other words, Azorean fuel prices are tied directly to real-time energy market conditions to keep them in line with international prices[2]. This approach results in a consistent trend of declining diesel and butane gas prices in the Azores from April to July 2025.
Portugal's news headlines now feature a continuous decline in fuel prices, with diesel and butane gas prices following this trend. This decrease in the Azores is influenced by the recent fluctuations in international market prices for petroleum and energy products, particularly in the European wholesale fuel markets.
