ASEAN Bio-Circular-Green Economy Conference 2025: ITS & UNAIR Showcase Indonesian Leadership

Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) and Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) recently hosted the ASEAN Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Network Meeting & Conference 2025. The event brought together delegates from 8 ASEAN member states and Japan to discuss integrating bio, circular, and green economy principles into regional research strategies. Prof. Ketut Eddy Purnama, envisioning ITS as a collaborative hub for ASEAN, showcased the Renewable Energy Integration Demonstrator of Indonesia (REIDI), generating 300 kWh of independent, renewable electricity.

The conference highlighted ITS' Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae research in collaboration with Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore. This project converts organic waste into high-value biomass, producing fertilizers, animal feed, and bioplastics. The event also marked the launch of ITS' updated Biotechnology Study Program curriculum, focusing on green biotechnology. Students now explore plant metabolite extraction, nanoparticle production, and microalgae-based protein development.

The Renewable Energy Integration Demonstrator of Indonesia (REIDI) was a key attraction. It generates 300 kWh of independent, renewable electricity using solar panels, biomass, and rooftop agriculture. The system demonstrates Indonesia's commitment to a resilient, ecologically, economically, and socially sustainable future.

The ASEAN Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Network Meeting & Conference 2025 at ITS and UNAIR fostered collaboration and innovation. It highlighted Indonesia's leadership in integrating bio, circular, and green economy principles into regional research strategies. With Prof. Ketut Eddy Purnama's vision, ITS continues to be a driving force in shaping a sustainable future for ASEAN.
