Association of gas stations condemns perceived price discrimination and high retail prices as unjustified.

Take a Stand! 🗣️ 💼 🚗

Are consumers and petrol station owners being left in the dust by fuel corporations and their deceitful pricing tactics? That's what the Fuel Station Association (TIV) is urging us to consider. In a scathing rebuke, the association is calling for an end to these practices, which they believe run contrary to antitrust laws. TIV managing director Jochen Wilhelm made his stance clear in Berlin: "the feds, EU Commission, and antitrust authorities need to get their acts together!"

With over 700 members running approximately 1,000 fuel stations, the association represents the backbone of the industry—franchisees who are struggling to keep up with the relentless manipulation of corporate Big Oil. Wilhelm cautions that fuel and retail sectors are "prime targets" for exploitation, with corporations eager to wield their mighty market power. Wilhelm further pointed to the dizzying array of price fluctuations that baffle motorists and franchisees alike.

A recent analysis of over 14,000 fuel stations in Germany by benzindeutschland.de sheds light on the chaos at the pump. The study found that more than 11,000 stations reported prices valid for less than 15 minutes between May 12 and 18. In a staggering 3,851 instances, the portal even recorded prices that lasted less than 5 minutes! The outspoken TIV declares, "petrol station franchisees have no power over fuel prices—they're just as bewildered as drivers when oil corporations' price jumps hit the headlines."

So, as we navigate our daily commutes and struggle with soaring fuel costs, it's worth siding with the TIV in calling for broader scrutiny of the industry. Maybe, just maybe, we can tip the scales in favor of the little guy.

Behind-the-Scenes Insights:

  1. Germany's new government has recently introduced a program geared towards boosting the economy, offering tax breaks and potential tax cuts to businesses. Although this initiative aims to improve competitiveness, it does not directly address fuel pricing or antitrust issues within the fuel sector.
  2. Efforts in Germany and Europe are underway to promote cleaner transportation options, including electric vehicles and synthetic fuels (eFuels). These are part of broader strategies to decarbonize the transportation sector.
  3. Organizations like NACS focus on convenience retailing and discuss matters relevant to the fuel industry, including biofuels and eFuels. It should be noted, however, that the Fuel Station Association (TIV) is not directly mentioned in these sources. For a comprehensive understanding of the TIV's specific actions, direct sources from the association or related industry publications are recommended.

The Fuel Station Association (TIV), amidst the call for antitrust authorities to address pricing manipulation by Big Oil, emphasizes the need for vocational training to empower its member franchisees in business and finance management. In line with the German government's economy boosting program, it is crucial for the TIV to explore vocational training opportunities for its members to improve their competitiveness and navigate the fuel industry more effectively.
