Athens Mayor Orders Temporary Closures of 11 Food Establishments for Permit Violations

Athens Mayor Haris Doukas has ordered the temporary closure of several food and beverage establishments in the city. The move comes as part of an ongoing effort to enforce public pavement permit rules, with 11 businesses shut down this month alone. Deputy Mayor Thomas Georgiadis confirmed that inspections are ongoing and have resulted in 23 closures since September. The initiative is led by Mayor Doukas, with Kostas Bakoyannis, the mayor of Athens' central district, playing a significant role.

The closures, which range from two to ten days, are part of a larger campaign that has seen 130 establishments shut down since the beginning of the year. Mayor Doukas has emphasized that public space should not be exploited without the necessary permits. The municipal police have been conducting regular inspections to ensure compliance with the rules. Deputy Mayor Georgiadis has confirmed that these inspections are being carried out without exception, with 23 businesses closed in September alone. The initiative is part of a broader effort to maintain order and safety in Athens' public spaces.

The temporary closures are a result of the mayor's directive to enforce public pavement permit rules. Kostas Bakoyannis, the mayor of Athens' central district, has been instrumental in these efforts. The city administration has made it clear that such actions will continue until all establishments are in compliance with the necessary permits.
