Awarded Public-Private Impact Honor to Development Expert Ali Sahabi by Los Angeles County Business Association
Ali Sahabi Honoured for Promoting Sustainability and Resilience
In a recent award ceremony, Ali Sahabi received the first Public-Private Impact Award from the Los Angeles County Business Federation (BizFed) for his significant contributions to promoting sustainability and resilience. Sahabi's work has left a lasting impact, particularly in the development of the Dos Dodgers Mixed Use Development in Corona, California.
The Dos Dodgers development, a thriving, sustainable community, was the first mixed-use, master-planned community in Western Riverside County. It boasted several firsts, including the first pedestrian promenade lifestyle center, the first LEED certified, Class A office building in Riverside County, and the first environmentally planned golf course. This development, once an abandoned 543-acre silica mine, has been transformed into a model of sustainable living.
Sahabi's work on the Dos Dodgers Mixed Use Development was highlighted during the award presentation, which also showcased four specific examples of Public-Private Partnerships by Sahabi.
Beyond his work in development, Sahabi is also involved in multiple professional, civic, and nonprofit organizations. He is a member of the California Apartment Association, California Building Officials, California Manufacturers & Technology Association, Los Angeles Metropolitan YMCA, Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, Los Angeles County Business Federation, and U.S. First Watch. He is also a member of the U.S. Resiliency Council.
Sahabi's commitment to sustainability and resilience extends beyond his professional endeavours. He initiated the Green Valley Initiative, which sparked some of the region's most forward-thinking projects. This initiative has been credited with promoting sustainable and resilient communities, inspiring clean and green technologies, and demonstrating a lifelong commitment to social and economic balance.
In addition to his development work, Sahabi also led a workforce development program that provided job skill training in the home building industry to formerly incarcerated individuals.
Another significant aspect of Sahabi's work is his focus on seismic issues and resilience. The First Watch Advantage, a series of educational programs, was designed to enable business owners to make informed decisions about protecting their businesses, buildings, and employees from earthquakes. The series covered ways to recover from earthquake damage to minimize business interruption and demonstrated the cost-saving benefits of improved resilience.
The First Watch Advantage was a collaboration between the U.S. Resiliency Council, BizFed, LAEDC, the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, and Optimum Seismic, Inc., with the U.S. Small Business Administration as a co-sponsor. Evan Reis, SE, Executive Director and Co-founder of the U.S. Resiliency Council, stated that the First Watch Advantage educational series was Ali Sahabi's idea.
Sahabi's dedication to resilience is evident in his educational background as well. He earned a Master of Real Estate Development degree from the University of Southern California School of Urban Planning and Development, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from Pepperdine University.
The Dos Dodgers Mixed Use Development has also earned several awards, including the California Governor's Environmental and Economic Leadership Award for Sustainable Communities, the American Planning Association award, and the Building Industry Association award.
The first Public-Private Impact Award was presented to Sahabi in 2023, with writer and producer Jerris Turner being the inaugural recipient in the previous year. The award aims to recognise individuals who have made significant contributions to promoting sustainability and resilience through public-private partnerships.
With his work on the Dos Dodgers Mixed Use Development, his leadership in the First Watch Advantage series, and his commitment to sustainable and resilient communities, Ali Sahabi truly embodies the spirit of this award.
