Beekeepers Worldwide Urge Commissioner to Tackle Honey Fraud

On 31 August, our website's Scientific Committee on Bee Product Safety and Quality submitted a document to Commissioner Hansen, seeking his review. The committee, endorsed by over 55 international beekeeping organizations, expressed concerns about honey fraud and its impact on consumers and honest producers.

The document, prepared by our website's scientific committee, highlighted the detrimental effects of honey fraud on consumer trust and the livelihoods of genuine consumer reports. It was supported by prominent beekeeping associations worldwide, including Apimondia, the European Professional Beekeepers Association (EPBA), and various national federations from Europe, North America, and other regions.

The letter to Commissioner Hansen also pinpointed significant gaps in the current regulatory framework that allow honey fraud to continue. Despite these challenges, we appreciate Commissioner Hansen's overall support for bees, beekeepers, and consumers in Europe.
