Boosting the Azubi Grant is the aim of the economic sector
The apprentice bonus scheme, introduced by the German government to support businesses during the pandemic, has come under criticism from companies and chambers of commerce. The scheme currently offers companies 2,000 euros per new apprentice until the end of the year, with an additional 1,000 euros if they increase the number of training places or take on apprentices from a Corona-insolvent business, amounting to 3,000 euros.
However, businesses are calling for the rules surrounding the revenue slump due to Corona, a prerequisite for funding, to be relaxed. They are also advocating for an extension of the aid until the end of 2021 and the expansion of the recipient circle to include businesses with up to 500 employees.
The German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) has reported this information to 'Handelsblatt'. The DIHK's internal paper identifies companies and chambers of commerce that are calling for these changes.
The Federal Ministry of Labour and the Federal Ministry of Education have announced vague improvements, but have yet to present anything concrete. The businesses are also demanding an online application process to make the procedure less bureaucratic.
Despite the criticism, the apprentice bonus scheme has been instrumental in maintaining training despite Corona losses. However, with the economic recovery still uncertain, businesses are pushing for changes to the scheme to provide more support and ease the application process.
