Brandenburg's Fire School Gets New Truck via Innovative Online Shopping
Brandenburg's state school for fire and disaster protection in Eisenhüttenstadt has acquired a new fire truck, a HLF 10, through an innovative online shopping system. This system, established by the Central Police Service of Brandenburg, has streamlined procurement for municipalities, reducing workload and bureaucracy.
The HLF 10, suitable for mid-sized cities' volunteer fire departments, was ordered by Maurice Kuhnert, the school's technology official, through the online shop. The system, presented by director Matthias Pawlitzky, enables digital ordering of firefighting vehicles, clothing, and equipment, avoiding lengthy tender processes.
Central procurement of such vehicles and equipment has been in place since 2006, with neighboring states joining since 2020. The more ordered together, the higher the discount given. Kuhnert specified extras like radio and breathing protection devices during the online process. Interior Minister René Wilke (SPD) highlights the advantages, including reduced personnel workload and bureaucratic effort.
The cost of such a fire truck, including pump and water tank, is significantly higher than an ordinary truck. However, discounts through central procurement in larger quantities make it more affordable. The new fire truck will aid in training firefighters at the state school, ensuring they have access to modern equipment.
