Bridge Closure Announcement: Köhlbrand Bridge Undergoing Maintenance Over Weekend
The Köhlbrand Bridge, located in the district of Waltershof, will be closed for traffic from Friday at 10 PM to Monday at 5 AM, due to planned repair and maintenance work. This closure will affect both westbound and eastbound traffic, and detour routes have been marked to ensure smooth traffic flow during the bridge closure.
For westbound traffic, the detour route U30 will be in operation. This route includes Roßdamm, Neuhofer Damm, Rethedamm, Hohe-Schaar-Straße, Kattwykdamm, Moorburger Hauptdeich, Fürstenmoordamm, Georg-Heyken-Straße, Waltershofer Straße, Vollhöfener Weiden, Finkenwerder Ring, and Finkenwerder Straße.
Eastbound traffic, on the other hand, will follow the detour route U40. This route goes via Finkenwerder Straße, Vollhöfener Weiden, Waltershofer Straße, Georg-Heyken-Straße, Fürstenmoordamm, Moorburger Hauptdeich, Kattwykdamm, Hohe-Schaar-Straße, Rethedamm, Neuhofer Damm, and Roßdamm.
It's important to note that the detour routes for both directions pass through the areas of Moorburg and Finkenwerder, and they are long, potentially adding significant travel time. Large and heavy transport is advised to avoid this closure as it affects both directions and no passage will be possible.
For traffic from HH-Stellingen (26), drivers can follow signs for ‘Elbbrücken’ towards Hanover. Those heading to Hamburg city centre from the north can also use this route. From HH-Schnelsen-Nord, drivers can use the airport ring roads B432 and B433 or take the Alsterkrugchaussee. From HH-Schnelsen junction, drivers can follow Kollaustraße to reach the city centre. Traffic towards Flensburg from HH-Heimfeld (32) will be diverted via the U7, while traffic to the port from Hanover should use the U21 diversion from HH-Heimfeld (32).
The A7 motorway between the HH-Stellingen (26) and HH-Heimfeld (32) junctions will also be closed during this period.
The repair and maintenance work on the Köhlbrand Bridge is expected to last from Friday night to Monday morning. The detour routes have been clearly marked to help navigate the traffic during this closure.
