Brunswick Launches BOMA Competition to Revitalize City Center

The city of Brunswick, in collaboration with Volksbank BRAWO eG, has launched an ambitious urban planning competition, BOMA, to revitalize its city center. The competition's name is derived from the key areas it covers: Bohlweg and Magniviertel plus surroundings. While specific start dates are yet to be confirmed, the competition aims to guide future urban planning, traffic, and architectural decisions with a convincing design by its conclusion.

The competition, approved by the city council in May 2025, is divided into two phases. The first phase, set to begin in early October 2025 and conclude by the end of the year, will focus on urban planning. It will collect ideas in a larger planning corridor that includes Bohlweg and the BRAWO Schlosscarrees building block. The invitation documents for this phase are expected to be dispatched soon.

The second phase, scheduled to commence in the second quarter of 2026, will develop concrete architectural designs for the Galeria building and its surroundings based on the ideas gathered in the first phase. This phase will conclude with a final jury session.

The BOMA competition, with its two phases of urban planning and architecture, is a significant step towards transforming Braunschweig's city center. The city and Volksbank BRAWO eG are committed to this procedure, aiming to create a compelling architectural design that will guide future developments in the area.
