Chery's E03 to Lead with L2+ Capabilities in 2023
Chery is set to launch its first model with L2+ capabilities, the E03, in 2023. This vehicle will feature NOP assisted driving functions, thanks to a partnership with Horizon Robotics. The latter company has signed agreements with over 20 car manufacturers, covering more than 70 models.
Horizon Robotics has been making strides in the automotive industry. In 2021, it launched the Journey 5 chip and plans to follow up with the Journey 6 chip in 2023. The company's chips are used in various Chery models, including the TIGGO 8 PRO and OMODA 5, which feature smart cockpit functions based on the Journey 3 chip. Chery plans to integrate these chips into at least five models with L2+ capabilities.
Chery's collaboration with GAC Group aims to develop and mass-produce vehicles with L2+ or higher autonomous capabilities using Horizon Robotics' Journey 3 chip. The two companies are also working together to build models with advanced driver assistance systems using the Journey 2 chip, with releases planned for this year. Horizon Robotics has already shipped over 1 million chips by the end of 2021.
Chery's investment in Horizon Robotics is driving advancements in in-vehicle smart chips. The partnership is set to bring more models with advanced driver assistance systems to the market, starting with the E03 in 2023. This collaboration is a significant step towards making autonomous driving more accessible.
