A large fire erupted at Chevron's oil refinery in El Segundo, California, on Thursday night, sending towering flames visible for miles. The blaze continued into Friday morning, with officials urging residents to stay indoors but no evacuations ordered.
The fire broke out at the refinery, which can process up to 290,000 barrels of crude oil daily, including gasoline, jet, and diesel fuels. All personnel were accounted for, with no injuries reported by Chevron. Roads around the refinery were reopened by Friday morning, despite the fire still burning in one section.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom's office was monitoring the situation, coordinating with state and local authorities. El Segundo, a beachside city near Los Angeles International Airport, experienced no impact on the airport. LA County Supervisor Holly Mitchell confirmed that fire crews had contained the blaze to one part of the refinery.
The cause of the fire at Chevron's El Segundo refinery remains unknown. While the blaze continues to burn, it is contained and has not led to any injuries or evacuations. Officials continue to monitor the situation, with roads around the refinery reopened and no impact on nearby Los Angeles International Airport.
