Chile's 2024 EV Boom: Mazda, Tesla, BYD Lead the Charge
The Chilean automotive market is set to witness a wave of new electric vehicle (EV) news in 2024. Mazda, Chevrolet, Tesla, and BYD are among the automakers gearing up to introduce new models, with Volvo and MG also planning significant news. Sales of EVs are expected to reach record highs next year.
Mazda will kickstart the year with the CX-90 SUV, powered by a turbocharged six-cylinder inline engine and a 48-volt mild hybrid system. Chevrolet will introduce the Bolt EUV, Equinox EV, and Blazer EV, with the Bolt EUV priced at 46,490,000 pesos. Tesla will finally begin sales of the Model 3 and Model Y in Chile.
BYD will expand its lineup with several new models, including the Tang, Seagull EV, Seal, Song Plus DM-i, Sea Lion, Yuan Up, Song Plus Pro DM-i, and Tang DM-i. Other automakers, such as Hyundai, JAC, and MG, will also introduce new electrified models. MG's offerings include the MG 4 electric hatchback and the MG Cyberster sports car. Volvo will launch the EX30, the most affordable premium electric vehicle in Chile, starting deliveries between March and April 2024. Additionally, JIM will debut pickup trucks in Chile during the first semester of 2024.
With these new news, Chile's EV market is expected to grow significantly in 2024. Sales projections for the passenger segment alone reach 16.7 million, with commercial vehicles expected to hit one million. These new models and increased sales will contribute to the country's transition towards sustainable mobility.
