CII Outlines Vision 2030 for Sustainable Indian Industry

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has outlined a vision for a sustainable future with its 'CII Vision 2030 on Climate Change and Sustainability'. This comprehensive plan aims to transform the industrial sector into a low carbon, circular, and collaborative entity by the end of this decade.

CII's vision is built on three key pillars. The 'Low Carbon' pillar focuses on de-carbonization through renewable energy transition, green technologies, and carbon markets. Businesses are urged to prioritize climate risk mitigation to ensure their sustainability and protect society from climate change impacts.

The 'Balanced Ecosystems' pillar emphasizes the protection and conservation of natural ecosystems, addressing water scarcity, and promoting sustainable agriculture. Meanwhile, the 'Circularity' pillar encourages a 'reuse and recycle' approach, requiring new business models and customer demand for sustainable goods.

CII Vision 2030 aligns with the UN's Global Goals, calling for concerted efforts to build a climate-resilient future. A holistic framework is needed to drive the entire ecosystem towards these goals through a collaborative approach. Collaboration is crucial for a 'just transition' that benefits everyone in the economic value chain. Green hydrogen is gaining momentum, but the commercial viability of carbon capture and storage remains a topic of debate.

The Indian industry, a significant contributor to the national economy, must now balance its environmental impact with its growth. CII's Vision 2030 provides a roadmap for this, aiming to create a sustainable future for both the industry and the planet.
