CIOs Prefer Experience Over Data in Decision-Making, Colt Study Finds

A recent study by Colt, a leading provider of network and voice services, has shed light on the decision-making processes of Chief Information Officers (CIOs). The findings reveal a strong preference for professional experience and intuition over data and intelligence in various aspects of their roles.

In a surprising revelation, 63% of CIOs surveyed placed more value on professional experience than data and intelligence when navigating changing compliance regulations. This trend extends to other areas of their work. For instance, 67% prefer professional experience over data and intelligence when responding to emerging customer requirements. Moreover, 71% find intuition and personal experience more effective than data intelligence for decision-making.

The study also highlighted the importance of trust in supplier relationships. A significant 76% of respondents agreed that trust between suppliers is crucial for successful outcomes during pivotal moments. This underscores the human element in decision-making, even in the tech industry.

Technology partners were also recognised as a significant source of technical innovation, with 78% of CIOs considering them as such. Furthermore, when managing external events, 69% of CIOs relied more on professional experience than data and intelligence.

The Colt study provides valuable insights into the minds of CIOs, showing a strong preference for professional experience and intuition over data and intelligence in their decision-making processes. This suggests that while data and intelligence are important, they are not the be-all and end-all for these tech leaders. Instead, they value the wisdom that comes from experience and the trust that develops over time with suppliers.
