Civil Service Salary Talks Ongoing, Quick Agreement Possible
Talks for civil service salary calculator increases for the coming year have been challenging and are ongoing. Despite no major breakthrough, an agreement could still be reached more quickly than expected. The government's first offer targets a three-year agreement, but it has been rejected by trade unions GÖD and younion.
Finance Minister Markus Marterbauer revealed that a one percent increase in wages costs 189 million euros. The government is willing to increase the zero-wage round planned for 2027 and 2028 in exchange for an agreement. However, negotiations have been tough, with a scheduled meeting for Monday cancelled and talks potentially resuming as late as Tuesday evening. If the National Council approves an amended salary agreement in November or December, it would still be in time. The trade union believes that if no agreement is reached, the originally agreed settlement will apply.
