Clutch Performances Continue to Defy Implausible Odds as Pacers Extend Winning Streak

INDIANA - The Indiana Pacers haven't just been surviving this week, they've been thriving. Playing three games and being behind with mere seconds left, the blue and gold have managed to grab victories each time. Their recent performance has been nothing short of remarkable, securing crucial wins for the postseason race.

As head coach Rick Carlisle commented after the third triumph - an overtime victory over the Brooklyn Nets - "It shows a level of resilience and a level of resourcefulness."

Two of these impressive comebacks went into overtime, with Indiana fighting hard enough to secure the win. In both overtime periods, the Pacers were trailing on the scoreboard with 67 seconds remaining. The Pacers may have been down, but they never seemed out.

The craziness didn't start just this week; the Pacers beat the Milwaukee Bucks last Tuesday thanks to a game-winning four-point play by Tyrese Haliburton. In a nine-day stretch, they've pulled off some extraordinary, tense finishes. Nearly half of these mind-blowing moments took place at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse, pushing the Pacers to a 40-29 record.

Impressed by the recent streak, Pacers center Thomas Bryant stated, "Absolutely not. This has been an amazing three-game stretch for us." He continued, "It just shows you the resiliency that this team has."

The Pacers have relied on clutch plays from Obi Toppin, Andrew Nembhard, Bennedict Mathurin, and Myles Turner this week. Toppin kicked things off, nailing a three-pointer with just four seconds left in overtime to defeat the Minnesota Timberwolves. The reserves delivered a key win for the blue and gold.

Two days later, Indiana was trailing by two late against the Dallas Mavericks. Nembhard found himself wide open from a deep spot on the left and launched a 29-foot three-pointer, which he nailed. The Pacers went on to win by four.

"Nothing was going through my head," Nembhard shared about his heroic shot. "I just caught it, shot it."

When the Pacers beat the Nets on Thursday night, there wasn't one defining shot to secure the victory. Instead, the blue and gold relied on important baskets, coupled with free throws, to guide them late in the game. Yet they did have a signature play to kick things into high gear - Turner blocked a last-minute shot from Keon Johnson, preserving their two-point lead and sealing the win.

Mathurin continued to shine in the crucial moments. He scored 16 points in the final six minutes against Dallas, finishing with 23 in total. Against Brooklyn, he had 17 points in the fourth quarter and overtime, notching a career-high 16 rebounds. While Mathurin didn't have a defining play or shot to clinch the game, he made countless important shots and free throws in those wins.

Together, these moments and performances shaped an epic nine-day period for the Pacers. They've won five of their last six games, residing in fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings. Notably, three of these victories came when star guard Haliburton was absent from the lineup.

As Turner remarked, "We're preparing for the playoffs. You're going to have moments like that in the playoffs. To be battle-tested, let these big moments not be a surprise, be able to control your emotions when everything's high, that's an underrated thing in this league."

While the Pacers have showcased impressive grit, they've certainly defied the odds in winning five of their last six games. Some of their victories since March 11 came in games where they looked beaten.
