Considering purchasing an Annual FASTag of ₹3,000? Here's what you need to know about it

The FASTag Annual Pass is a one-time payment plan designed for private car, jeep, and van owners in India, offering a hassle-free experience on national highways and expressways. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to purchase and use the FASTag Annual Pass.

Purchasing and Setting Up Your FASTag

  1. Buy a FASTag: If you don't already have one, you can purchase a FASTag from authorized platforms such as the NHAI website, Rajmargyatra app, or bank portals like Paytm Payments Bank, ICICI Bank, and HDFC Bank. You can also buy FASTag offline from authorized banks and centers.
  2. Ensure Eligibility: Your FASTag must be active, correctly linked to your vehicle registration number (VRN), and affixed properly on the windshield. Your vehicle should be private/non-commercial, and the FASTag cannot be registered only with a chassis number (you must update it with the VRN).

Applying for the Annual Pass

  1. Log in and Apply: To apply for the Annual Pass, log in to the Rajmargyatra app or the NHAI or MoRTH website using your mobile number or VRN. Enter your vehicle registration and FASTag details, and upload required documents such as the Registration Certificate (RC), owner’s passport-size photo, ID proof, and address proof.
  2. Make the Payment: The fee for the Annual Pass is Rs 3,000 for the base year (2025-26). You can pay using UPI, debit/credit card, or net banking. Wallet balances are not accepted for the payment.

Activating the Annual Pass

  1. Activation: After payment and verification, the Annual Pass is activated on your FASTag within about 2 hours (up to 24 hours in some cases). Activation is confirmed by SMS, and you can verify pass status on the app or NHAI website.

Using the Annual Pass

  1. Toll-free Travel: Once activated (from August 15, 2025, onward), the pass allows you to make up to 200 toll trips or use for one year, whichever comes first, without paying toll charges per trip on designated national highways and expressways. After usage limit or validity expiry, your FASTag will revert to normal toll payment mode.

Key Points

  • The Annual Pass is valid only on national highways and national expressways, not state highways or local roads.
  • The pass is non-transferable and non-refundable.
  • The pass leads to significant toll savings—about 70% less compared to normal toll fees per crossing, as per government announcement.

In summary, buy or have an active FASTag linked properly to your private vehicle, apply and pay Rs 3,000 online through the Rajmargyatra app or NHAI website, and then activate the Annual Pass to enjoy up to one year or 200 toll-free trips on national highways.

It's important to note that the FASTag Annual Pass does not cover tolls on state highways or toll roads run by state authorities or municipal bodies. The pass is also not applicable to electric vehicles or any other vehicle types not mentioned in the previous bullet points. Once the pass's validity is over, users will need to make a payment again and buy the pass. On roads not eligible for the FASTag Annual Pass, regular toll charges will be applied. The annual pass will be activated on August 15, and a confirmation message will be sent via SMS.

  1. To facilitate seamless public-transit and transportation in India, considerlinking your FASTag to a financial account and availing the FASTag Annual Pass, which can be purchased from various authorized platforms such as banks and online portals.
  2. The FASTag Annual Pass, when activated, offers a significant reduction in finance costs on toll charges for private cars, jeeps, and vans, particularly on national highways and expressways, thus benefiting the industry and the public.
