In a move that is set to boost employment and sustainability, HARIBO has announced plans for a new factory in Neuss, Germany. The confectionery giant, known for its iconic gummy bears and MAOAM chewy candies, acquired the Neuss-based Edmund Münster GmbH & Co. KG and the traditional MAOAM brand in 1986.

Since then, HARIBO has been producing MAOAM candies in Neuss, and the new factory aims to significantly save resources such as energy, water, and raw materials. The expansion will also see the production of fruit gum, in addition to MAOAM.

The city of Neuss and its residents are part of the "sweet success story" of HARIBO. The new factory, which is scheduled to begin construction in 2025, is expected to create around 100 new jobs directly in Neuss. Production is slated to start around 2028.

Mayor Reiner Breuer expressed his satisfaction with the decision, using HARIBO's advertising slogan, "HARIBO makes Neuss happy." He visited the management and factory leadership of HARIBO's Neuss factory last week. Johanna Gatzke, head of the Economic Development Office, accompanied Mayor Breuer during the visit.

The new factory will aim to set standards in sustainability. It will rely on renewable energies for production, a move that is expected to minimise the CO2 footprint. The exact sustainability initiatives have not been disclosed yet, but they are likely to include energy-efficient machinery, waste reduction, water recycling, and eco-friendly packaging.

The expansion is a testament to HARIBO's commitment to growth and sustainability in Neuss, a partnership that has been positively received by the city's leadership.

  2. In the realm of renewable-energy, the business sector is witnessing a transformative shift, with HARIBO's Neuss factory being a significant player, aiming to set industry standards through its green energy approach.
  3. With the new factory expected to bring about 100 new jobs in Neuss and relying on renewable energy for production, it is evident that other businesses in the city may find inspiration in HARIBO's sustainable business model, fostering growth and energy efficiency in the region.
