Criminals Apprehended in Dubai for Unauthorized Transfer of Funds Via Digital Wallets and Bank Accounts

In a renewed effort to safeguard the financial well-being of the community, Dubai Police have issued a warning to residents about the rising threat of online bank scams. Two fraudsters have been arrested recently for exploiting individuals' bank accounts and digital wallets, highlighting the importance of taking the security of bank accounts seriously.

To protect yourself from such scams, Dubai Police advises against responding to unsolicited emails or calls asking for personal banking information. Never share passwords, PINs, or allow remote access to computers. Immediately report any suspicious or unauthorized transactions to the bank or Dubai Police Cybercrimes Unit.

Specific precautions include avoiding clicking on links or attachments in unsolicited emails claiming to be from banks or companies, never sharing sensitive information such as account numbers, passwords, or PINs in response to emails, calls, or texts, and blocking lost or stolen cards immediately by contacting your bank. Reporting any suspicious transactions or activity promptly to your bank’s fraud department and the Dubai Police Cybercrimes Unit can increase the chances of freezing fraudulent transfers.

Forwarding suspicious emails to your bank’s reported email (e.g., [email protected] for Dubai Islamic Bank) for verification, then deleting them, is also recommended. Be cautious of fake invoices or phishing emails impersonating legitimate companies asking for payments or renewals. Use strong, unique passwords, enable two-factor authentication where possible, and monitor account activity regularly.

Using hardware or digital measures such as NFC-blocking wallets or cards can help prevent unauthorized contactless transactions. Dubai Police urges vigilance in safeguarding bank accounts and personal information. They recommend using the "eCrime" platform or the Dubai Police smart app for reporting suspicious financial activities.

The arrested fraudsters used the illegally transferred funds across an organized fraud network. Their activities were designed to obscure the origins of the money and hinder tracking efforts. The Anti-Fraud Centre in the General Department of Criminal Investigation at Dubai Police tracked down the fraudsters and their locations, leading to their arrest. Several electronic devices and payment cards associated with the fraudulent accounts were confiscated by Dubai Police.

Legal proceedings have been initiated against the arrested fraudsters. Dubai Police aims to protect the financial and social well-being of the entire community and urges community members to avoid engaging with suspicious offers about opening bank accounts. This article does not mention any recovery of Dh1.1 million jewellery bag, catching motorists making illegal turns, or jet ski violations.
