Customs Authority in Aachen Uncovers Wage Theft and Illegal Employment in Hotel Industry

Customs Authority in Aachen Uncovers Wage Theft and Illegal Employment in Hotel Industry

The Customs authority in Aachen has recently conducted a series of inspections targeting the hotel and catering industry in the region. Eight business record checks were carried out, focusing on compliance with the Minimum Wage Act (MiLoG) and other employment regulations.

The inspections, led by the Finanzkontrolle Schwarzarbeit of the Zoll authority, involved unannounced visits to businesses in the city region of Aachen and the districts of Düren and Euskirchen. A total of 41 employees were interviewed during these checks. The inspections were part of nationwide efforts to combat illegal employment and social fraud in the sector.

The Customs places a strong emphasis on ensuring fair employment conditions and protecting state revenues. Eight administrative offense proceedings were initiated during these inspections, including cases where employers failed to carry identity documents or adhere to immediate notification obligations. Additionally, four criminal proceedings were started on-site for suspected wage withholding, misappropriation, and illegal employment of foreigners.

The inspections were risk-oriented, with both spot checks and full inspections of all employees of an employer. Extensive follow-up checks are also carried out to verify the data collected on-site with the companies' payroll and financial accounting.

The Customs' efforts in the region have led to eight business record checks, eight administrative offense proceedings, and four criminal proceedings. These inspections aim to ensure compliance with the Minimum Wage Act, social security obligations, and other employment regulations, contributing to fair employment and competitive conditions in the usajobs industry.
