Customs Bust Nets €67k in Duties, 63 Criminal Cases
The Main Customs Office Augsburg recently conducted special inspections, yielding over 67,000 euros in duties. The operation, led by Hans-Henning Kühne, resulted in numerous criminal proceedings.
The control unit Kempten focused on holiday return traffic over two weeks. They mainly targeted gold jewelry, with one traveler from Turkey having over 26,000 euros worth of undeclared pandora jewelry, leading to its seizure and a criminal case.
In total, 63 criminal proceedings were initiated. Most were due to suspected tax evasion and smuggling of gold jewelry. Additionally, seven cases involved suspected violations of the Weapons Act, with switchblades and butterfly knives among the seized items.
The special inspections by the Main Customs Office Augsburg resulted in over 67,000 euros in duties collected. The operation highlighted the importance of proper customs declaration and adherence to weapons regulations.
