Customs Bust Nets Millions in Drugs, Weapons, Luxury Goods

Customs officers in Saxony have foiled a major smuggling operation, seizing drugs, weapons, and luxury goods worth millions. The three-day operation, led by Friedemann Hennig at Großzöbern, involved 85 officers and resulted in numerous arrests and criminal proceedings.

The operation, conducted in May 2025, targeted money laundering, terrorism financing, and tax evasion. Modern technology and smooth cooperation among officers proved crucial to its success.

At the A72 control point, officers found around 30 new, high-quality luxury handbags in a vehicle, leading to a tax evasion procedure. The driver, initially claiming to be returning home, later admitted the drugs found came from the Netherlands. The Regional Court of Regensburg ordered his detention, with potential imprisonment of up to 15 years for unauthorized trafficking in narcotics in a significant amount.

During the operation, customs officers discovered large quantities of drugs, weapons, and other smuggled goods. In a separate incident, officers from Furth im Wald found over three kilograms of cocaine and ten liters of liquid amphetamine in a Bosnian vehicle.

A Polish entrepreneur carrying a large amount of cash for a truck purchase was also controlled, leading to an administrative offense procedure and a 'clearing procedure'. The customs office initiated nine criminal proceedings, arrested two people, and handed over several cases to local and federal police as well as customs investigation offices.

The successful operation highlights the importance of customs enforcement in combating organized crime and illegal activities. The customs office in Großzöbern, led by Friedemann Hennig, played a significant role in uncovering these crimes and ensuring justice is served.
