Customs Office in Schweinfurt concludes 2023 with approximately 1.8 billion euros added to the national treasury

The Main Customs Office Schweinfurt, located in the heart of Germany, is a versatile employer and a significant player in the country's economy. With approximately 700 employees, the office plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of goods traffic and collecting taxes.

In 2023, the office collected around 1.8 billion euros in taxes and import duties, with the highest revenue streams coming from customs duties and import VAT, and excise duties. Specifically, over 31 million euros were collected in beer tax, 280 million euros in motor vehicle tax, and around 25 million euros in taxes on alcohol, tobacco, sparkling wine, and coffee.

The customs offices in Aschaffenburg, Bamberg, Bayreuth, Coburg, Dettelbach-Mainfrankenpark, and Schweinfurt-Londonstraße monitor the flow of goods for import and export. Their duties extend beyond revenue collection, as they also work tirelessly to prevent the import of inferior medicines, unsafe technical products, or counterfeit products into the European Union.

The fight against black work and illegal employment is another crucial aspect of the customs office's work. In 2023, the damage caused by such activities amounted to 24 million euros, and fines totaling over 53.6 million euros were imposed. The Financial Control of Black Work, a unit within the Schweinfurt customs, has been successful in this fight, with custodial sentences totaling around 53.5 years (642 months) imposed in 2023.

For those interested in learning more about the customs office's work, an open day will take place at the Main Customs Office Schweinfurt on July 13, 2024, from 10:00 to 15:00. This event will provide an insight into the varied and responsible tasks of the customs, offering an opportunity to talk to customs officers and gain a deeper understanding of their roles.

The Main Customs Office Schweinfurt is also committed to providing a good work environment. It offers good pay from the start, exciting workplaces, and a personnel policy certified by the "berufundfamilie" audit. Currently, the office is training 96 trainees in the higher and middle customs service, including those in the newly designed Bachelor of Laws degree program starting March 1, 2024.
