Customs Raid Finds 25 Minimum Wage Violations in Regensburg Hotels and Catering
The Regensburg Customs Office recently conducted inspections in the hotel and catering industry, uncovering 25 potential violations of minimum wage and social security regulations. This follows the lead government director's emphasis on securing employees' rights in the sector.
On Friday, 58 customs officers inspected various businesses and interviewed around 170 employees. The operation resulted in nine business records inspections, four criminal proceedings, and 38 administrative offence proceedings. Since January 1, 2025, the general minimum wage has been set at 12.82 euros per hour.
The Federal Office of Food and Veterinary Affairs conducted similar inspections nationwide in December 2022, with intensive follow-ups planned for the first quarter of 2023. The hotel and catering industry, being one of the largest and most employment-intensive sectors, falls under the Minimum Wage Act (MiLoG).
The recent inspections highlight the importance of ensuring compliance with minimum wage and social security obligations in the hotel and catering industry. The findings underscore the need for continued vigilance and enforcement to protect employees' rights.
