Customs Raid Nets 17 Cases in Hotel, Catering Industry Wage Theft

On Friday, September 19, 2025, the Financial Control of Illegal Work of the Customs (FKS) conducted nationwide inspections in the hotel and catering industry. The Main Customs Office Augsburg led the operation, deploying 64 forces across Swabia and Region 10 in Upper Bavaria. They visited 20 businesses and questioned 89 people about their employment status.

The inspections resulted in 6 criminal proceedings and 11 administrative offence proceedings. However, the identity of the leader of the Main Customs Office Augsburg in this sector during the inspection period remains unknown.

The operation aimed to enforce the Minimum Wage Act (MiLoG), which applies to the large and employment-intensive hotel and catering industry. Since January 1, 2025, the statutory minimum wage has been 12.82 euros gross per hour.

The FKS's inspection highlights the commitment to upholding minimum wage regulations in the hotel and catering sector. Despite the successful enforcement actions, further investigation is needed to determine the leadership of the Main Customs Office Augsburg during the inspection period.
