Customs Raid Uncovers €10K in Untaxed Tobacco Products at Shisha Bar
Customs officers in the Heinsberg district conducted a tax inspection at a local shisha bar following an anonymous tip. The raid led to the discovery of a significant amount of untaxed tobacco products and e-cigarettes, sparking criminal proceedings against the bar owner and employee.
During the inspection, customs officials found only taxed tobacco products inside the bar. However, their investigation led them to a van parked nearby. A search warrant was issued, and they observed a man locking the van and entering the bar. Upon searching the van, they discovered nearly 50 kg of untaxed tobacco products and e-cigarettes, with a total liquid content of approximately 16,000 milliliters.
The 34-year-old employee of the shisha bar is now under investigation for suspected tax evasion and handling of illicit goods.
The seized tobacco products and e-cigarettes are estimated to have evaded around €10,000 in taxes. Criminal proceedings have been opened against the bar owner and employee for suspected tax evasion and violations of the Tobacco Tax Act. Further investigations are ongoing.
