Customs Seize Unregistered Ferrari in Major Tax Evasion Case
Customs officials in Singen have uncovered a significant case of tax evasion involving a luxury Tesla. A 60-year-old driver from Luxembourg was fined a substantial amount for importing an unregistered Tesla into Germany. Between January and June 2025, the Main Customs Office Singen detected 26 vehicles registered outside the EU, with a combined value exceeding 230,000 euros. These vehicles could have incurred import duties totaling around 71,500 euros. Among them was a Tesla valued at approximately 207,000 euros, registered in Switzerland. The case came to light during a routine customs control at the Konstanz - Paradiesertor customs office in early September. The driver was slapped with a hefty fine of 124,000 euros for failing to pay import duties on the Tesla. This is not an isolated incident; during the same period, 38 cars without duty documents were discovered, with a combined value of over 330,000 euros and potential import duties of over 165,000 euros. The driver was ordered to pay 64,000 euros in import duties and an additional 60,000 euro fine. These findings highlight the ongoing efforts of customs authorities to combat tax evasion and ensure compliance with import regulations.
