Road markings on Hermann-Löns-Straße were initiated earlier this week, following the road surface repairs between Duckterather Weg and the Wupsi bus depot. This step marks an important progress in enhancing traffic safety and cycling infrastructure in Bergisch Gladbach.

The city of Bergisch Gladbach has announced that upon completion of the works, both sides of the Hermann-Löns-Straße will feature dedicated cycle lanes for enhanced safety and visibility of cyclists. Where space is limited, pictogram chains will indicate shared road usage.

For added safety, separation strips will be marked along the remaining parking spaces to minimize "dooring" accidents. The intersection of Hermann-Löns-Straße/Franz-Hitze-Straße will offer improved conditions for cyclists, featuring widened waiting areas for safer and more visible positioning.

Ragnar Migenda, First Deputy Mayor of Bergisch Gladbach, stated, "These timely completed measures mark another milestone towards a safe and modern cycling infrastructure in our city. With this central connection improvement, we are sending a clear signal for sustainable mobility."

The city is also planning further improvements for pedestrian traffic. At the intersection of Hermann-Löns-Straße/Damaschkestraße, median islands will soon be installed to aid pedestrian crossings. This measure was developed in collaboration with the public during the 2023 pedestrian traffic check.

Future cycling-friendly renovations on the unrenovated section of Hermann-Löns-Straße depend on the planned construction measures surrounding the S11's double-track expansion. The city administration is also working on the planning of another significant cycling connection known as route F2, which will link Refrath and Bensberg and expand the cycling network in Bergisch Gladbach.
