Denmark Pledges Record DKK 1.1 Billion to African Development Fund

Denmark has pledged DKK 1.1 billion to the African Development Fund's 17th replenishment (ADF-17). This significant contribution represents a 40% increase over Denmark's previous support and was announced at the 2025 Nordic-African Foreign Affairs Ministers' Meeting. The pledge aligns with Denmark's new Africa Strategy, 'The African Century, Partnerships of Equals'.

The African Development Fund (ADF) has been supporting low-income African countries since 1972, investing over $45 billion in various sectors. Denmark's early pledge is expected to set a positive tone for the upcoming ADF-17 replenishment session scheduled for December. This session will see development partners confirm their contributions, with Denmark's commitment already setting a strong precedent.

AfDB President, Dr Sidi Ould Tah, welcomed Denmark's early commitment. He described it as a 'strong demonstration of trust in the Fund's capacity to deliver'. Denmark's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Lars Rasmussen, reaffirmed his country's commitment to Africa and multilateral cooperation. The exact organisation behind Denmark's contribution is not specified, but it's likely to be the Danish government or agencies like DANIDA.

Denmark's DKK 1.1 billion pledge to the ADF-17 is a substantial increase in support, demonstrating a commitment to Africa's development. This contribution, made early and ahead of the December replenishment session, signals Denmark's dedication to multilateral cooperation and the success of the ADF-17.
