Direction shift on Severinusstraße

In the heart of Hürth, the "Lebensader Lux" urban development project is underway, aiming to make Luxemburger Straße more attractive and livable. The project, which is progressing according to plan, involves the demolition of the former AOK building to make way for a modern new structure that will house commercial spaces, a square with water features, and green spaces.

Construction is currently in progress, with the installation of new supply lines, house connections, a new canal, and district heating being extended up to Severinusstraße. The western side of the street is already being developed with open spaces, sidewalks, and a bicycle street, and construction on the eastern side is set to follow.

The traffic direction in Severinusstraße will be reversed during construction, with entry possible via Weidengasse and exit via Fritz-Räcke-Straße. A traffic-calmed zone with greenery will be created on Luxemburger Straße between Bonnstraße and Horbeller Straße, with intersections becoming two roundabouts and the maximum speed limit reduced to 30 km/h.

A new pipeline will connect wastewater from two tributaries of the Bonnstraße to the canal in the Severinusstraße via the shaft structure, replacing an old canal. The roundabouts at Bonnstraße and Horbeller Straße will be built after the completion of the Lebensader Lux project.

Residents can apply for free connections for district heating at 02233 / 53-600 or fernwaermevertriebswunsere websitede, and for fiber optics at 0221 /2222 5544 (NetCologne) or glasfaserswunsere websitede. The sidewalks between Horbeller Straße and AOK-Straße will be made barrier-free again at the beginning of 2026.

The project is funded by multiple ministries and programs, including the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Building, the NRW Ministry of Home Affairs, Local Government, Building and Digitalization, the Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport, the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM), and the Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Transport of the state of NRW. Additional funding of 171,600 euros will be provided for the planned cycle street from the Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport and the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM) as project sponsors for the federal special program "City and Country".

Traffic is currently managed with two-lane traffic between Bonnstraße and AOK-Straße, with single-lane entry to the construction site between 6 pm and 9 am in the area from Horbeller Straße to AOK-Straße. No specific completion or reopening date for traffic is provided, but the project is expected to be completed and reopened to traffic at the beginning of 2027.
