Get Ready for Disruptions: Crane Demolition at East Station Causes Traffic Headaches

East Station crane demolition leads to temporary closures - Disassembling of the crane at the East station causes delays

Listen up, Berliners! You'll want to know this: due to the much-anticipated dismantling of a colossal crane at our very own East Station, there's gonna be some chaotic days ahead in both rail and road traffic. Here's the lowdown on what's goin' down.

From Thursday, get ready for traffic restrictions on the Paris Commune street, between Ostbahn and Am Ostbahnhof. Starting at 6:00 AM until May 11, 4:00 PM, cars will be blocked from this stretch.

Next up, on Saturday, the Südhalle at the East Station will be shut down for 24 hours, beginning at 4:00 PM. Trains on tracks 1 and 3 will be upended, and long-distance trains will bypass the East Station during this time. Instead, they'll start and end at Gesundbrunnen. All other long-distance trains will depart and arrive at the main station.

The regional lines RE7, RE23, and the airport express will face partial cancellations and detours with new stopovers. Thankfully, S-Bahn traffic won't be affected.

Prepare for further road closures from May 14 to May 22. The Erich-Steinfurt-Straße, Hermann-Stohr-Platz, and Koppenstraße, in the vicinity of the railway bridge at the East Station, will be off-limits to cars.

From May 16 to the early morning of May 19, train traffic will once again be disrupted on tracks 6 to 11. Long-distance trains will be scratched from the East Station timetable during this period. EC trains to and from Poland will avoid both the main and East Station, choosing to start and end their journeys at Gesundbrunnen. A bus replacement service will be operational between Berlin main station and Frankfurt (Oder) on May 17 and 18.

The same regional traffic restrictions apply during this time, but the S-Bahn at the East Station will be cut off as well. A bus replacement service will also be provided.

Now, if you're seekin' official details on these closures, it'd be wise to check out the Berlin public transport authority (BVG), Deutsche Bahn, or Berlin city government websites for the most accurate and recent updates. Here's to navigatin' the storm, Berlin! 🍻

  1. The upcoming crane demolition at Ostbahnhof, located at East Station, could impact your community policy on transportation.
  2. Vocational training centers in the vicinity of the railway bridge at the East Station may experience disruptions due to the crane demolition, causing concerns for the industry and finance.
  3. It's suggested that those commuting via rail or road traffic should consider alternate routes or schedules, as cancellations and detours might occur due to the crane demolition.
  4. To make up for the suspended train traffic on tracks 6 to 11 and continued disruptions, vocational training centers in the affected areas might need to organize temporary relocations or make-up sessions as a result of the crane demolition at East Station.
