Disruption in S-Bahn train service in Hamburg due to cableway damage
Deutsche Bahn has announced a cable malfunction in Hamburg-Altona that will affect S-Bahn lines S2 and S5. The malfunction, caused by construction work in the area of Sternbrücke, will disrupt services on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
On Tuesday, no S-Bahn trains will run on the section between the main station and Altona station due to both the cable malfunction and independent construction work. Repairs to the damaged cable have begun, but the search results do not contain information about the completion date.
As a result of the cable malfunction and the construction work, S-Bahn services will be rerouted until Friday. The rerouting will see trains diverted via Jungfernstieg, skipping stops Dammtor, Sternschanze, and Holstenstraße.
Deutsche Bahn is offering replacement traffic between the main station and Altona station during this period. However, the rerouting will not allow trains to run between the main station and Altona station on Wednesday and Thursday.
Fortunately, the malfunction is not expected to affect S-Bahn services on Friday. The construction work on Tuesday is separate from the cable malfunction, and it is unclear if it will continue beyond that day.
Passengers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and check the Deutsche Bahn website or mobile app for the latest information. Alternative transport options may be available, and passengers are encouraged to consider these where possible.
This cable malfunction is the latest in a series of disruptions to S-Bahn services in Hamburg-Altona, highlighting the importance of regular maintenance and investment in infrastructure to ensure reliable and smooth services for passengers.
