Doctor Shortage Drives Up Salaries in Southern Russia
In the southern regions of Russia, the demand for professional medical doctors is soaring, with a significant shortage of doctors. Krasnodar Krai, in particular, is facing a high demand, with 2.5 thousand vacancies posted from July to September 2025. The average offered salary for medical professionals in Kuban has increased by 12% to 89.7 thousand rubles in September 2025, reflecting the high demand and competition for talent.
The situation is not unique to Krasnodar Krai. Rostov Oblast is also grappling with a shortage of doctors, with 1.5 resumes per vacancy. In Kuban, the ratio is even more skewed, with 1.1 resume per doctor vacancy. This is far from the normal market value of four people per vacancy. Director of Southern HeadHunter Olesya Lavrenova confirmed that there is no southern region where there are enough doctors to fill the vacancies.
The average offered salary for medical professionals in Rostov Oblast is 89.8 thousand rubles, indicating that the region is also actively seeking to attract and retain professional medical doctors. Vice-Governor Minykova has acknowledged the shortage, stating that Krasnodar Krai is short of several thousand doctors and teachers, highlighting the urgent need to address this issue.
The high demand for doctors in the southern regions of Russia, particularly in Krasnodar Krai and Rostov Oblast, is driving up salaries and creating competition for talent. With no southern region reporting sufficient doctors to fill vacancies, it is clear that these regions are facing a significant challenge in their healthcare sector. Efforts to attract and retain professional medical doctors are crucial to address this shortage.
