DOE Boosts Teams in Cebu After 6.9 Quake, Aims to Strengthen Power Infrastructure
Following the devastating 6.9 magnitude earthquake on September 30, 2025, the Department of Energy (DOE) has dispatched additional teams to Cebu to tackle electricity issues. This comes after an initial deployment by the Task Force on Energy Resilience. The province has faced severe flooding, with an extra group sent to assist on Tuesday.
The Task Force on Energy Resilience, led by Energy Secretary Sharon Garin, has been coordinating with key organizations such as the National Power Corporation, National Electrification Administration, National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, TransCo, and private companies. Their efforts focus on power restoration and improving energy resilience.
In Masbate, the impact of the storm was catastrophic, with 1,148 power posts toppled by strong winds. This led to a province-wide power outage. Secretary Garin has confirmed that rehabilitation efforts are ongoing, aiming to restore electricity and strengthen infrastructure against future disasters.
The DOE's Task Force on Energy Resilience continues to work tirelessly in Cebu, following the earthquake and subsequent flooding. Secretary Garin has suggested using budget funds to recalibrate and insulate electrical structures, making them more resilient. The task force's coordination with other organizations ensures a comprehensive response to the province's energy crisis.
