Dubai Chamber Hosts Workshop on Sustainability Reporting

The Dubai Chamber of Commerce recently organised a virtual workshop on sustainability reporting, with the Centre for Responsible Business taking the lead. The event drew 147 private sector representatives, who gathered to discuss the importance of sustainability reporting and its role in showcasing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance.

The Centre for Responsible Business has been instrumental in promoting responsible business practices across Dubai. It aims to assist companies in aligning their practices with global sustainability standards, and the workshop provided an overview of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce ESG Label, launched by the Centre for Responsible Business last year.

The ESG Label is a certification that encourages and recognises companies that integrate strong ESG principles into their business practices. It serves as a formal acknowledgment of a company’s commitment to sustainable, responsible, and ethical business operations. By achieving the label, companies can demonstrate their progress and dedication to sustainability, which can boost their reputation and stakeholder trust.

The ESG Label helps companies assess their ESG maturity by providing a clear framework aligned with international ESG criteria. This allows organisations to benchmark their current sustainability practices and identify areas for improvement. By doing so, companies can evaluate their environmental impact, social responsibility, and governance structures, align with global sustainability standards and best practices, and drive continuous improvement through measurable ESG goals.

The workshop also explored how robust reporting frameworks contribute to long-term value creation. Effective ESG reporting enhances investor confidence, strengthens consumer trust, and ensures regulatory compliance. A case study from Transworld Group showcased the successful adoption of Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards, providing practical strategies for comprehensive sustainability reporting.

In addition, the UN Global Compact UAE Chapter offered insights into aligning corporate practices with global sustainability standards. The centre offers a range of tools, knowledge resources, and platforms to help companies integrate sustainability and governance into their operations. The Centre for Responsible Business is committed to advancing ESG excellence and focusing on helping companies adopt GRI standards for sustainability reporting.

The Dubai Chamber’s broader effort to drive sustainable business practices in the region was also highlighted, with the ESG Label aiming to help companies gain industry recognition and drive business growth. Notably, companies like Daikin MEA have received this ESG Label, underlining their longstanding commitment to sustainability.

The workshop emphasised the importance of ESG reporting for fostering transparency, with discussions centred on how sustainability reporting enables businesses to showcase their ESG performance. The Centre for Responsible Business is dedicated to assisting companies in their journey towards ESG excellence, positioning Dubai as a hub for responsible commerce.
