Dubai's Chamber of Commerce concludes prosperous commercial voyage to Mozambique

Dubai's Chamber of Commerce recently embarked on a trade mission to Mozambique, marking a significant step towards deepening bilateral trade and investment between the two regions. The mission, held in collaboration with the UAE Embassy in Maputo and various Mozambican organisations, was a resounding success, fostering new partnerships and facilitating 356 business-to-business meetings [1].

The mission, which took place in early 2025, was meticulously prepared to understand the potential and challenges within Mozambique’s economic environment. Dubai's strategic interest in deepening trade ties with African countries was evident throughout the mission [2].

A diverse delegation of 19 companies from sectors such as electronics, energy, textiles, and retail participated in the mission. One of the key sectors attracting Dubai investment interest is Mozambique’s Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) industry. The TotalEnergies-led large LNG project in Mozambique's Rovuma Basin, valued at $20 billion, is set to make Mozambique the second-largest LNG producer globally [3].

The LNG project underscores Mozambique's growing energy sector potential, offering opportunities for trade and investment partnerships. Other sectors likely to see collaboration include trade facilitation, infrastructure, and business development services [3][5].

The mission also highlighted the potential for cooperation in sectors such as agribusiness, tourism, renewable energy, and wood processing [4]. A 'Doing Business with Mozambique' forum was held, attended by 349 participants, including senior officials and business leaders [4].

Keynote speakers at the forum included Fredson Bacar, Tourism Secretary of Mozambique, and Álvaro Massingue, President of the Chamber of Commerce of Mozambique. The forum provided a platform for exploring cooperation and business opportunities across sectors [4].

Mohammad Ali Rashed Lootah, President and CEO of Dubai Chambers, emphasised the mission's role in enhancing the global reach of Dubai-based companies [4]. He noted that this initiative is vital to boosting Dubai's trade and competitiveness on the global stage [4].

The non-oil trade between Dubai and Mozambique increased by 47%, from AED 3.1 billion in 2023 to AED 4.6 billion in 2024 [5]. As of Q1 2025, 89 Mozambican businesses were registered with Dubai Chamber of Commerce, reflecting the growing economic ties between the two regions [5].

Expanding trade with Mozambique enhances Dubai’s position as a gateway between Africa and the Middle East, leveraging its strategic location and business-friendly environment [3]. By fostering strong ties with resource-rich and emerging African markets like Mozambique, Dubai diversifies its trade portfolio and strengthens its global competitiveness [3].

Engagement in sectors such as LNG and other infrastructure projects aligns with Dubai’s vision of positioning itself as a global hub for energy trade, investment, and logistics [3]. As the relationship between Dubai and Mozambique continues to grow, both regions stand to benefit from increased trade, investment, and collaboration opportunities.
