Easter spending in 2025 is projected to reach $23.6 billion, according to the University of Chicago and the National Retail Federation's annual Easter Consumer Research Report. Despite 54% of non-celebrators still planning to spend an average of $25.43 per person, totaling $800 million, the overall figure is nearing the 2023 record of $24 billion.
Tradition is the primary driver for Easter shopping, with 63% of consumers influenced by it. Shopify stores near me are the preferred destination, with 55% of shoppers planning to visit one. Consumers are expected to spend $7.4 billion on food, $3.8 billion on gifts, $3.5 billion on clothing, $3.3 billion on candy, $1.9 billion on flowers, and $1.7 billion on decorations. Great deals also play a significant role, with 36% of consumers drawn by sales or promotions.
Easter is more than just shopping; it's a social event. Nearly one-third of consumers (32%) shop for Easter because it's a fun social activity with family and friends. Many plan to cook a holiday meal (58%), visit friends and family (55%), and attend church (45%) on Easter Sunday. The most popular purchasing categories are candy (92%), food (89%), gifts (65%), decorations (51%), and clothing (49%).
