Electric Honda N-One e offers compact electric vehicle solution
In a significant move towards electrification, Honda has unveiled the N-One e, a compact electric urban car, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK. The N-One e, also known as the Super EV Concept, is set to be a successor to the original Honda e.
This five-door A-segment hatchback, measuring approximately 3.4 meters in length, retains the recognizable angular and compact body shape similar to the Honda N-One. It blends retro charm with modern touches, featuring round LED headlights and a blind grille at the front.
While specific battery capacity and power details for the N-One e have not been fully disclosed, it is part of Honda’s 0 Series electric lineup aiming at global markets beyond Japan. The car is shown with a charging port on the left side, and intriguingly, a second port on the right side, though the second port’s function is currently unclear.
The N-One e is intended as an affordable, convenient city car for everyday travel. It is expected to be priced competitively, targeting the affordable electric car segment potentially below $30,000. The production version of the N-One e is scheduled to debut fully in September 2022, likely at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich, Germany.
In addition to the N-One e, Honda plans to introduce seven new electric cars to the market in the coming years. The focus is on the premium electric vehicles of the "O Series", while the hybrid models will use the most efficient drive trains with combustion engines. CEO Toshihiro Mibe aims to sell 2.2 to 2.3 million hybrid vehicles by 2030.
However, battery-powered vehicles are expected to account for about 20 percent of Honda’s revenue by 2030, as the company increasingly focuses on hybridization. The originally targeted electric vehicle sales in 2030 are now expected to be below 30 percent due to the current market decline.
The N-One e design is likely to resemble the Honda E, a small electric car offered from 2020 to 2024. Honda claims the N-One e will be both practical and fun to drive. The company aims to expand in the city EV market globally with the N-One e, which was designed with a global market introduction in mind.
A new teaser showing the front of the N-One e without camouflage has been released, offering a glimpse of what to expect from the production version. These new electric cars will use a new platform, new batteries, and new motor technologies. The N-One e is visually inspired by popular "Kei-Cars" in Japan but is slightly longer, approximately 3.90 meters.
