A recent survey of over 2,500 executives across five major EU economies reveals strong support for mandatory climate transition plans among both respondents and business leaders. The poll, conducted by E3G and YouGov, highlights the growing importance of sustainability in corporate strategies.

Nearly two-thirds (63%) of respondents back the requirement for large companies to publish climate transition plans. This sentiment is echoed by 63% of executives, indicating a broad consensus among business leaders. The survey, however, did not disclose the identities of the participating companies.

The lack of clarity in Omnibus regulations is causing concern. Around 48% of business leaders report investment delays, while 63% of mid-sized firms are putting capital allocation on hold. This underscores the need for clear regulatory frameworks to facilitate sustainable investment.

Business leaders are increasingly linking sustainability to competitiveness. A majority (55%) view it as a key factor, while 68% want the EU to set a global example on sustainability standards. European companies see sustainability as a competitive necessity that attracts capital and mitigates supply chain risks. Moreover, 59% of executives consider sustainability essential to brand value and bottom-line growth.

The survey underscores the growing importance of sustainability in corporate strategies and the need for clear regulatory frameworks. With nearly two-thirds of respondents supporting mandatory climate transition plans and a majority linking sustainability to competitiveness, the EU is urged to set a global example in sustainability standards.
