European Investors Dominate German Renewable Energy Market

European investors, especially from Germany and Norway, are driving growth in German renewable energy. Despite a minor US presence, global players are making substantial commitments, signaling a promising future for the sector.

European Investors Dominate German Renewable Energy Market

Investment in German renewable energy companies is dominated by European investors, with a significant presence from Germany itself. A recent analysis reveals the leading investors and their contributions.

Deutsche Asset Management Investment tops the list with a substantial €149.5 million, followed by Norges Bank Investment Management (€73.8 million) and Old Mutual (€64.5 million). Notably, US investors, including PNC Bank and US Bank, have a minor role, with barely 1% of investments coming from there. Western Europe accounts for 38%, with Germany leading at 56.3%. North America contributes just under 5%.

In terms of number of investments, BayerInvest Kapitalgesellschaft leads with seven out of 14 companies studied. Norges Bank Investment Management follows with six investments. Globally, Apollo Global Management has committed €3.2 billion in joint ventures with RWE, while Israeli firm N2OFF has invested in key solar and energy storage projects through partnerships.

European investors hold 94% of the 'German values' in the renewable energy sector. Looking at the first quarter of 2016, the top three buyers were Norges Bank Investment Management (Oslo, Norway), Deutsche Asset Management Investment (Frankfurt), and Oberweis Asset Management (Lisle, USA).

European investors, particularly from Germany and Norway, are driving the growth in German renewable energy companies. The sector's future looks promising with these strategic investments.
