European Union and Free State provide €8.8 million to Leipzig East
The Leipzig region is set to undergo significant changes, as it receives a total of €22.2 million in funding for various infrastructure improvements and development projects. This funding, separate from the €8.8 million provided by the Free State of Saxony for the development of the Leipzig Ostviertel, brings the total investment for the eastern district and related projects to €31 million.
One of the key projects in the eastern district is the expansion of the Ostpark Bogen, which forms part of the development plan. The expansion is expected to enhance the park's appeal and functionality.
In addition to the eastern district, other city districts will also benefit from the funding. A green foot and cycle path will be constructed to connect the eastern district with other city districts, promoting sustainable transportation and fostering a more connected community.
A section of Stünzer Straße will be transformed into a traffic-calmed zone, aiming to improve safety and quality of life for locals. Moreover, additional projects in the Leipzig region will be developed, although specific details have yet to be disclosed.
Leipzig is also required to contribute an additional €3.8 million in its own funds towards these projects. One such project includes the renovation of the Open Recreation Centre, which will take place in a location other than Sellerhausen. The Open Recreation Centre in Sellerhausen will also undergo renovation.
Furthermore, the Leipzig region will receive funding for a specific, as-yet-unspecified project. Similarly, a specific infrastructure improvement and a specific transportation improvement in the Leipzig region will also be made, though further information about these projects is not currently available.
All projects must be planned, applied for, and completed by 2027, ensuring a busy and transformative period for the Leipzig region. These investments are expected to bring about positive changes, improving infrastructure, promoting sustainability, and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
